PhD in the Université de Toulouse is a 3 year contract with the university, an enterprise, a research institution or a local authority. It consists of a scientific project developed among an internationally renowned research laboratory. This scientific work is supervised by a qualified professor and the thesis can be fully written in english.

How to apply

 Requirements to apply:

  • Candidates must hold a degree equivalent to a Bologna complying Master degree (5 year of Higher Education / 300 ECTS) with research experience
  • If you are a qualified engineer (representing five years of higher education with research experience), you can apply to do a PhD
  • A minimum level of English or French proficiency is required for all applicants

 The doctorate (PhD)

Once accepted to do your PhD, the candidate signs the Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées Thesis Charter

After a minimum of three years in a research program culminating in the defense of a thesis, successful candidates are awarded with a doctoral degree, the highest degree offered in France’s higher education system.

Studies within the École des Docteurs of the Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-pyrénéesare now seen as providing professional research experience.




Before the arrival : a unique welcome kit in France called Toul’Box and designed to help students with administrative routine, house-hunting, language learning etc.


The welcome desk :  a new hub of 300m2 dedicated to all French and international students with the aim of offering services and advices regarding accommodation , cultural and sports activities, transport, assistance for studying with a handicap, academic programs, administrative routine,  residence permit. Trainings for PhD students

The École des Docteurs of the Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées offers high quality professional training. During the PhD program, the student will able to follow language classes (French as a foreign language, English,...) and a wide range of non-disciplinary training programs adapted to the PhD student's needs.

The goal is to enable to all PhD students, and especially those with mobility project or the international insertion, to acquire appropriate language skills. In addition to the conventional teachings, intensive modules, "coaching" type were set up after the fall 2013.

Intensive one-week session (25 hours) for english language trainings are organized during the autumn and February school holidays.

The next sessions will take place from October 30 to November 3, 2017  (Level A2 / B1 and B2) and February holidays, from February 26 to March 2, 2017 (for A2 / B1 and B2 levels).

The aim is to offer to non French-speaking international PhD students to opportunity to learn or inprove French as a Foreign Language.

Intensive one-week session (25 hours) for french as a foreign language trainings are organized during the autumn and February school holidays.

The next sessions will take place from October 30 to November 3, 2017 (A2 and B1) and from February 26 to March 2, 2017 (for the levels A0/A1, B1 and B2 / C1).

We use an online management tool to organise our non-disciplinary training programs and to keep our students updated.

If you would like to participate in training, you will need to create an ADUM account before applying to enroll in any of our courses

- All other information isn't compulsory.

Under 'Civil status', you are not required to upload and complete administrative documents.
You may change your data online at any time.

2/ Updating your account
  • If you already have an account and wish to update your information, please log in.

Continue the process by completing or updating fields.

3/ Enrolling on your chosen course
  • Click on your choice and enroll.

At the end of your class you will receive an online evaluation questionnaire to complete and submit.
Once you have submitted this questionnaire you will receive confirmation that you have been credited with your training hours.

4/ Consulting your account
  • Consult your account to see the courses in which you are enrolled or that have been credited to you.
5/ Withdrawal or cancellation

Requests to withdraw from a course or to cancel your enrollment will no longer be accepted in the 15 days before the start date. Your Doctoral School will be billed for any unjustified absence.

6/ Doctoral Schools and training courses

In principle, you may take 2 training modules per year.

To take any further modules, you must obtain authorisation from your Doctoral School, which is responsible for managing your training program.
